The Municipality of Meaford is governed by Council. The Chief Administrative Officer is the head of the Municipality’s administrative structure by providing leadership and direction. The CAO is also responsible for the coordination of information with all departments while ensuring the direction and priorities of Council are implemented and aligned with strategic planning documents. Mayor and Council
As elected representatives of the community, Municipality of Meaford Council makes decisions considering the common good of the municipality.
As the Head of Council, responsibilities of the Mayor include:
- Presiding over council meetings, and
- Representing the municipality at official events.

Together, Councillors make decisions pertaining to municipal finances and services, while taking into account the interests of both residents and businesses. To do so, they must adhere to applicable laws, such as but not limited to:
