Mayor and Council
Council is the elected body responsible for governing the Municipality of Meaford. Council passes by-laws, sets policy and determines the level of public service provided to the community. The Municipality of Meaford Council is made up of 1 Mayor, 1 Deputy Mayor and 5 Councillors elected at-large, currently serving a term that runs from 2022 to 2026.
Council Meetings
Council generally meets twice per month. Special and emergency meetings can be called by the Mayor and/or CAO from time to time. Meetings are typically held at the Council Chambers, located at 157859 7th Line, but may be held at Meaford Hall for meetings where larger gatherings are anticipated. All regular meetings are livestreamed via the Municipality of Meaford’s YouTube channel. You can find minutes, agendas, and videos of all Council meetings on the Meaford Council Portal. Communicating with Council
Members of Council can be contacted individually or group correspondence may be sent to council@meaford.ca. Correspondence can also be mailed or dropped off to the Municipal Administration Office located at 21 Trowbridge St. W., addressed to the attention of Council. Note that communications sent to council@meaford.ca are included on Council correspondence with subject lines available for the public to view.
Council Initiatives
The Community Builder Award
The Community Builder Award is presented each year to a local volunteer who has helped shape and promote our community through their work. You can nominate a volunteer to receive this award. The recipient is selected by Council, and presented with the award at the Volunteer Appreciation event. Above all, this award recognizes those who strive to make the Municipality of Meaford an incredible place to live, work and play.
Recipient Selection
All nominations will be reviewed by the Municipality of Meaford Council during a closed session of Council. Council may elect not to select an award recipient in any given year if no nominations are deemed to be appropriate. Identifiable information regarding nominated individuals shall not be released to the public at any time. Only the name of the individual receiving the award shall be made public. If no nominations are received, Council may, at their discretion, present the award to an individual of their choosing.
