Shaping a Summer‑Ready Meaford: Spring Preparations Ahead

With spring approaching and weather conditions expected to improve, the Municipality of Meaford is preparing to begin seasonal maintenance and clean‑up activities as part of the Shaping a Summer‑Ready Meaford campaign. In the coming weeks, municipal staff will be getting roads, parks, waterfront areas, and public spaces ready for increased spring and summer use.

Roads and Infrastructure

Spring road operations will begin soon, including street sweeping to remove winter sand and debris from urban roads. Crews will be working to clean paved roadways, catch basins, gutters, sidewalks, pathways, parking areas, and other municipal facilities. Road patching is actively underway to address potholes across the municipality. Patching is routine maintenance that is performed year-round but potholes are most likely to form early spring and late winter due to freeze-thaw cycles mixed with melting snow and rain events. Residents are asked to give crews space and use caution around working equipment to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Street flushing may take place periodically to help manage dust. Additional seasonal road work is planned throughout the spring and summer, including line painting, catch basin cleaning, granular road resurfacing on rural roads, roadside mowing, and scheduled construction and resurfacing projects.

Residents can help prepare by:

  • Keeping parked vehicles off streets when possible during sweeping operations
  • Placing garbage and recycling containers away from the road edge on collection days
  • Keeping sports equipment off roadways and away from curbs
  • Driving slowly and cautiously near crews and equipment

Property Maintenance

As the growing season approaches, residents are reminded of the Property Standards By‑law, which requires lawns to be maintained and properties kept tidy.

Parks, Harbour, and Recreation

Seasonal preparations are also planned for municipal parks, trails, and waterfront areas. Memorial Park and the Meaford Harbour are scheduled to open for the season in May. Crews will be completing litter removal, inspections, and general maintenance to prepare these spaces for public use.

Seasonal amenities, including docks and the Blue Dolphin Pool, will open throughout the spring and summer as conditions allow. The splash pad is being upgraded this year, and residents can follow project updates at www.meaford.ca/splashpad.

To stay informed about seasonal operations, service schedules, and facility openings, residents are encouraged to follow the Municipality of Meaford on social media.
