The Municipality of Meaford is inviting residents, businesses, and community members to learn more about and provide input on a proposed Administrative Penalty System (APS) By-law at an upcoming public meeting.
“The proposed Administrative Penalty System is intended to improve how minor by-law violations are addressed in our community,” said Manager of Municipal Enforcement, Holly Hynes. “APS offers a more direct and efficient process while maintaining accountability and encouraging compliance. We encourage residents to attend the public meeting, ask questions, and share their feedback.”
An Administrative Penalty System allows the Municipality to enforce certain minor by-law violations without requiring matters to proceed through the court system. This makes it faster and easier to resolve issues. If someone wants to dispute a penalty, they can do so through a screening and hearing officer instead of the court.
The proposed by-law would initially apply to currentby-laws, such as:
- Noise
- Nuisance
- Property Standards
- Yard and Boulevard Maintenance
- Open Burn
