Municipality of Meaford Adopts the 2026 Budget

The Municipality of Meaford’s 2026 Budget has been deemed adopted as ofFebruary 6, 2026.This year’s budget marks the first full cycle under Ontario’s Strong Mayors Legislation, with the Mayor submitting the proposed budget directly to Council following extensive collaboration with municipal staff. The approved plan focuses on maintaining essential services, supporting long-term financial sustainability, and investing in the infrastructure needed for a growing community.

“This year’s process has been unique, but our goals remain consistent,” said Mayor Ross Kentner. “Working closely with staff, we developed a budget that is financially responsible, transparent, and aligned with our strategic priorities. It supports the growth we are experiencing, advances our commitment to sustainability, and continues to strengthen our infrastructure. I am proud of the collaborative work that went into this year’s plan and rate increase under 5%, which was my directive from the start of this process.”

2026 Budget Highlights

This year’s budget focuses on maintaining essential services, supporting long-term financial sustainability, and investing in the infrastructure needed as our community continues to grow. It includes continued investment in core infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and municipal facilities, along with a commitment to responsible debt management and ongoing contributions to reserves.

  • Implementing a municipal tax rate increase of 3.35%

    • For a home assessed at $273,000, property taxes will increase of$96.00 annually or $8.00 monthly

  • Implementing an estimated blended tax rate increase (which includes the County and Municipality) of 3.40%

    • For a home assessed at $273,000, property taxes will increase of $150.00 annually or $12.50 monthly

  • Investing $500,000 in Harbour Dredging as a key economic driver for the Municipality

  • Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Amalgamation through a series of popup events, a traveling exhibit, and a short film premiere at Meaford Hall this fall

  • Implementing new financial software to expand online services for residents

  • Launching a new municipal website to better showcase services and programs

  • Investing $200,000 from reserves in the Downtown Harbourfront Master Plan

  • Replacing the ramp and stairs at Woodford Hall

  • Advancing the Lakeview Cemetery Fountains Refurbishment project

  • Delivering the Splash Pad Replacement, with a grand reopening planned for this summer

  • Beginning engineering work for the Beautiful Joe Park Pedestrian Bridge

  • Rehabilitating the Bognor Park Entrance

  • Improving Leith Beach to enhance accessibility and support recreation along this key waterfront asset.

  • Rehabilitating, reconstructing, and maintaining critical roads and bridges across both the urban and rural network

Note: the average assessed value of a home in the Municipality of Meaford, according to MPAC, is approximately $273,000.

Property Tax Information

The 2026 tax rate will be reflected on the 2026 Final Tax Bill, issued in two installments: August and October. Residents are encouraged to review their statements carefully and contact the Municipality with any questions related to property tax payments.

Council, staff, and the community all contributed to shaping the 2026 Budget. Residents shared feedback through public meetings and by email, supporting a process that reflects local priorities and ensures responsible financial stewardship.
