The Ontario Pumped Storage Project has officially begun the Government of Canada’s Impact Assessment process, led by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), as of March 6, 2026. Through the process IAAC has the Summary of Issues, Response to the Summary of Issues, and the Notice of an Impact Assessment Decision with Reasons on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry.

TC Energy is proposing to build a 1,000 MW Pumped Storage facility on a portion of land within the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford. The project is targeting a final investment decision in 2024 and is expected to be in-service in 2030. 

On February 27, 2023, the Municipality of Meaford passed a resolution to conditionally support TC Energy’s proposed Pumped Storage Project.

Pumped Storage Advisory Committee

The Municipality of Meaford Pumped Storage Advisory Committee (PSAC) gathers information on TC Energy’s proposed Ontario Pumped Storage project and its potential benefits.
