The Ontario Pumped Storage Project has officially begun the Government of Canada’s Impact Assessment process, led by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), as of March 6, 2026. Through the process IAAC has the Summary of Issues, Response to the Summary of Issues, and the Notice of an Impact Assessment Decision with Reasons on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry.

TC Energy is proposing to build a 1,000 MW Pumped Storage facility on a portion of land within the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford. The project is targeting a final investment decision in 2024 and is expected to be in-service in 2030.
On February 27, 2023, the Municipality of Meaford passed a resolution to conditionally support TC Energy’s proposed Pumped Storage Project.

May 29, 2026 – IAAC will be hosting a virtual Public Information Session to provide an overview of the project, the impact assessment process, IAAC’s decision that an impact assessment of the project is required, and the key issues set out in the Summary of Issues.
