Development and Environmental Services

The Municipality of Meaford's Development and Environmental Services Department's role is to assist Council, the development community and the public in matters relating to land use planning, building construction and By-Law enforcement.


Here you will find copies of the Official Plan, Zoning By-law and other related Municipal policies and regulations. Application Forms to seek approval can also be found in this section. Information is also available with regard to various Municipal projects and development proposals.


Looking to construct a new building or addition, complete a renovation or change a use, install a septic or a pool, demolish a building, add a deck or accessory building? This section will provide you with the necessary information on what approvals may be required and contains the related applications.

Garbage and Recycling

The operations department handles garbage, recycling, and green bin pickup as well as other waste services for Meaford residents.

Water and Wastewater

Find information on water billing, annual water and wastewater reports, and information on water repairs and maintenance services.

Bylaw Enforcement

This sections outlines the enforceable By-Laws that may apply to your property and also outlines the process if you have a complaint with regard to compliance by others. 

Animal Control

Dog Tags are mandatory for all dogs in the Municipality.  This section provides options on how to obtain your dog tag,  as well as what to do for lost or found dogs, stoop and scoop, aggressive dogs, dog bites and the Meaford Cat program.   

Heritage Conservation District

The Municipality of Meaford approved a Heritage Conservation District Study and Plan for the downtown area of the former Town of Meaford.

Community Improvement Plans

The Municipality approved a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for the downtown area of the former Town of Meaford in 2008 and more recently an Economic CIP applying to commercial, industrial, agricultural/value-added and non-residential heritage lands/buildings outside of the downtown as well.
