The Municipality of Meaford and the Meaford Public Library are committed to providing quality goods and services which are accessible to all persons we serve.  We offer many materials and services in accessible formats.  

The Library will not charge support workers accompanying persons with disabilities for admission to any Library event but should notify the Library in advance of their attendance at any event.  This policy falls under "The Municipality of Meaford Accessible Customer Service Standard Policy" as of January 1, 2010.

The building has a wheelchair ramp with automatic door for easy entry to the main floor only.

Accessible Equipment

Accessibility enhanced public computer
We provide a computer workstation with large monitor, large track ball mouse, large print keyboard, JAWS screen reader software.

Daisy Players (Victor Reader Stratus)
A specialized player that works with Daisy discs.  The player can be borrowed by customers who have a visual, physical, or print disability.

Hand held magnifiers.  Some with light  
Inquire at the main desk.

Stand Alone Light with Moveable Magnifier and Daylight Reading Lamps
Used in the Reading Room.

Accessible Collections

Large Print Books
The Library offers large print books including many bestsellers in fiction and non-fiction.  New large print items arrive weekly.

Books on CD
The Library provides books on CD in Fiction and Non-fiction collections with new titles added regularly.

Closed Captioned DVDs
Closed captioned films include subtitles that are available on a large percentage of the DVD film collection.

Descriptive Videos
Descriptive videos (DVDs) provides special narration that describes the action, characters, costumes, locations and sets to a viewer with visual disabilities without interfering with the movie's dialogue or sound effects.  Available on a large percentage of the DVD film collection.

Playaway Digital Audio Players and Viewers
Pre-loaded audio books and video players that are the size of an iPod.  Playaway devices mean no download or set-up time is required and no need for WiFi.
Daisy Discs
Daisy books for the visually impaired, in partnership with CELA.  Daisy Discs work with the Daisy player available for loan.  They also play on a MP3 CD or DVD player or on your computer by downloading the

From our e-Library section, free eBooks and eAudio books, that are downloadable to your computer via OverDrive and Hoopla from home.

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) Member Services

Love to read but have difficulty reading print?  If you or someone you know has trouble reading print because of a visual, physical or learning disability, a partnership between Meaford Library and CELA offers lots of other ways to read.  Meaford Library is a proud member of the Partners Program with CELA.  Through this Program we provide free access to:

  • CELA's circulating collection as well as the Library's own collection of Daisy audiobooks.
  • The CELA  Digital Library which also includes magazines.
  • Access to a Victor Stratus Daisy reader.

Homebound Service
Meaford Library also provides urban residents free home book delivery of library materials.
