On August 16, 2012, the Province of Ontario launched the Municipal Infrastructure Strategy, a program that forms part of the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative (MIII). The $90 Million program was provided to identify the significant funding gap between the value of municipal road, bridge, water, wastewater, and stormwater assets and the funding that is presently being provided to ensure that these assets are suitable for municipal service delivery. The first round of funding under this program was focused on the allocation of $9 Million towards assisting smaller municipalities (populations under 20,000) in the establishment of a long-term asset management plan. The Municipality of Meaford was successful in receiving approximately $26,000 in funding for the development of an Asset Management Plan.
Asset Management in the Municipality of Meaford will not be limited to the Municipality's Asset Management Plan, and will be considered a "living document" that is constantly updated. Over the next few years, the Municipality will continue to enhance its asset inspection programs, as well as develop a comprehensive electronic database of these assets.
